    vinyl paint/dye

How well does the vinyl paint/dye work changing black to white?

I have a black trunk mat for my 56 that should be beige. Is there anything that I can do to turn the black to beige?

The beige ones have been unavailable for years or I would buy one.

    thanks

Dave, the trick is to paint the black mat with white dye 1st and when dry, paint it with beige. (an old "retoucher's trick)

        Dave -

Check with the folks at Romeo Engineering (link below) - they're tooling up to produce exact reproduction '56 and '57 trunk mats, and should be close to running initial samples soon.

          BEWARE

The black carpet and trim on door panels for 1961-62 is solid black instead of the "olive" hue black salt & papper that was original. This color will result in point deductions in judged events.

"Tuxedo" refers to paint as in "Tuxedo Black". Salt & Pepper is the carpet style. The thread with which the carpet is woven is composite with a black vinyl tracer superimposed on the yarn. When woven into carpet it appears as a black "speckled" color. "Black" carpet is really olive colored (green) with the black specks.

In 1989, while working for Eckler's, I researched this carpet and introduced it to the marketplace in 1990. Lafayette Spinning of Dalton, Georgia made it for us. Auto Custom Carpet made the material into carpet sets and Al Knoch, (Crown) copied us a lear later. Romeo sticks to the solid black version which was never original. The carpet is SALT & PEPPER style.

          Dale.
