Re: restoring frame
After restoring three cars I would never remove the body unless there is major damage to the frame. If you're just cleaning it up spend a few weeks on your back with cardboard, wire brush, soap and water, etc...You can do a very good job if you just take some time. Removing the body doesn't always make it better.- Top

Re: restoring frame
Last summer i painted all of my frame from the very rear all the way up to the engine compartment with POR 15. It was very time consuming and required a lot of masking, but it turned out quite well, and I did not get any on the fiberglass. I cleaned the frame with sandpaper and a wire brush. One trick for cleaning crossmembers is to take a long thin strip of sandpaper, feed it around the crossmember, and run it back and forth, like polishin a shoe. Good luck, Dan- Top

Re: restoring frame
I just finished sand blasting a frame. I used about 500# of sand and it took 2 weeks to do it . If your not going to completely take the whole car apart its not worth it. The frame has to be 100% bare,,fuel tank supt./trans crossmember and all in order to get everywhere.- Top

Re: restoring frame
I have just had my frame sandblasted and painted with a good rust resistent primer and epoxy semi-gloss black paint and it came out beautiful. The sandblasting took two days and the painting about a week. Now it is sitting in the garage awaiting parts to be put back on. I really contemplated about removing the body, as there was no major damage to the frame, but I have done several other vehicles and I figured if you are going to restore it - do it right. Hope I made the right decision.- Top
