    Differential Cushion Install

I am about to attempt to install new differential cushions on our 67 sb. Per the 1967 Chassis Service Manual it is suggested that a 1/2" block of wood be place on the top of the nose of the diff. and floor.
My question is when I loosen the bolt which holds the cushions in place the differential drops. I was expecting the differential to lift and rest on the wood block. Am I doing something wrong?

Since no one else has responed I'll share my limited experiance.
Do you have the ends of the leaf sping bolted up or hanging loose?
With the sping ends bolted up it will pull the nose of the differential up. Had to undo my spring to get the nose back down when the block came loose. Jim

Rear spring is removed. Diff is bolted to the cross member and the driveshaft is still connected.
I do not think it could fully rotate, so I think I'm OK to remove the bolt and cushions.
      Just checking.
