Hey fellow air conditioners, I'm cleaning up my ductwork this winter and took the passenger side apart today. My passenger side (right duct) clamp is original and whatever was once lining the inside of the clamp has rotted away. Anyone have an original or repro and can tell what I might use to replace what was originally once there??? Was it foam padding or what? Thanks.

Re: 67 Air Conditioning Guys
Kirk - The original material was a "felt" type material. LICS shows an A/C duct ball felt seal in Section #36, Item 34 in my catalog. I have no idea if they are OK or not but for $5 a set you can check them out and let us know. Pete- Top

Re: 67 Air Conditioning Guys
Pete,
Those are the small bands of felt that go around the air duct vents. They would be too narrow as it seems that these would have been maybe 2 X 4 inch pieces that lined the inside surface of the right hand duct clamp. Interesting though if the clamp used the same material, at least it gives me an idea of what if was. Thanks. Kirk- Top

Re: 67 Air Conditioning Duct Clamps.
Yes, that is correct. It is designed to hold the passenger side duct section that contains the chrome "roller ball" vent to the main duct under the glovebox. It is a large (2" maybe) piece of metal with a screw holding the one side together and allowing you to tighten it so that is holds the two main duct sections together. My original clearly contained some type of substance glued around the inside of the metal clamp, but it had completely rotted away. It absence would also explain why I could never get the clamp to hold properly!
Garth, you wouldn't happen to have a thickness on that foam section would you? Also, is it glued in as four separate pieces (one for each side of the clamp), or just sorta rolled around the clamp as one solid peice (would assume it's sectioned)? Finally (sorry), color of the foam? Black?
Thanks a ton. Kirk- Top

Re: 67 Air Conditioning Duct Clamps.
Awesome. Thanks. I would have guessed some sort of foam from the remnants of what was let in mine. Seems like it really wouldn't add much thickness to tighten down the clamp though. Maybe it was just to "seal" the junction between the two ducts so cold air didn't leak out. I noticed that the aim refers to it as a "seal". Thanks again.- Top

Original Foam Seal
from my early '65 RH duct bracket/seal/clamp.
IMO, the foam was probably 2 pieces, and the thickness now is about 50 thou (guess).
