    Insurance

    Hi -

I have returned to the US after a long stay in England. I brought with me a 1959 Vette I spent two years restoring. Is there a specialist insurance company I should contact about isurance? Allstate want $750 and an appraisal.

Does anyone know of an appriasor I can use too? I am in South Carolina.

    Thanks

    Mark

    Re: Insurance

Google "collector car insurance". Many of us have Hagerty or Grundy. I have Hagerty on two cars and it's under $500.00 for the year.

    Good luck

I have Heacock and I'm under $300 for a 71 vette. I haven't had any claims, so I can't speak to that....and I hope to keep it that way!

        Re: Insurance

I use Haggerty and have had no claims.I did need them to do a road call for me when I had a dead battery. It took about a 1/2 for them to get to me and then the guy that jumped the car for me followed me to a service center where I could buy a new battery. I was very satisfied with them and just renewed my policy with them. I did not shop around because I was very satisfied, if something works why change it! Tom

Do you carry your collision/comprehensive with American Collectors and your liability insurance with another carrier (for example, your regular automotive insurance policy)?

Does anyone else carry their collision/comprehensive insurance with a collector-type auto insurance company (e.g. Haggerty, American Collector's, Heacock, etc.) and liability with your regular auto insurance carrier (i.e. State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, AAA, etc.)?

              Joe,

Yes, I still have liability through (ugh) State Farm. I carry an umbrella policy.
When I switched the old cars to Hagerty, SF requested a copy of the Hagerty policies and had me adjust coverages to match my "regular" cars that are still with them. They would then agree to continue the liability policy over everything.

What coverage did they require that you match with your regular cars? I don't see a connection between the liability coverage (public liability and property damage)carried with State Farm and the collision and comprehensive carried with Hagerty. Do you have your full automotive liability coverage (regular + umbrella) with State Farm or just the umbrella?

hagerty classic car insurance. i have all my corvettes insured with them. all you need is to send them pics and you agree on a value. they go to all the big auctions to keep up with current market. the cost is less than half what state farm wanted. they also offer free towing anytime.

Rick, insurance isn't a strong point for me! I am with USAA too. What exactly have you done? I did not get a lot of assistance other than the standard help while trying to work my polices on my vettes. I would like to be able to redo my policies with them and acquire the "other coverage" should the unthinkable situation. My bother-in-law told me the story of the Ardmore, Oklahoma doctor driving his C1(think 57), stopped at light, and semi making wide right turn and rear trailer wheels rolling on top the car! Would be nice to know that the 70K repair bill would be taken care of!

American Collector's Insurance (ACI) is headquartered in New Jersey and their website is: http://www.americancollectors.com

you can get an online quote and their customer service is outstanding. you get annual renewal notice where you validate your odemeter every year. There is a an adjustment for inflation automatically built into your policy.

I actually had them before, during restoration and after - all I had to do during restoration was tell them where the work was being done, and then call as changes were made, such as now a rolling chassis, etc.

USAA recommended I work with them, and that is what I did and have not regretted it. Been with them since 2001, and have no experience with any claims through them
