    BW T-10 Main Case

I have noticed that the top right mounting ear on numerous BW T-10 main cases have broken or cracked. Would this have been a casting or milling flaw that caused the case to crack when the transmission was torqued down to the bellhousing because the main case was not flat. I have purchased two cases that I am in the process of aluminum welding the ears, I clamped the ear to a flat steel plate prior to welding, but it has a silght rock when placed on a flat machined surface. Has anyone ever milled the founting surface to achieve a flat mounting surface.

The problem you describe is very common on T-10s and Muncies. It's almost invariably caused by someone trying to "pull the transmission in" to seat on the bellhousing by using the bolts when other attempts to seat the transmission fail. The transmission MUST be seated against the bellhousing without the aid of the bolts. If the transmission cannot be seated by hand, it won't be seated with the aid of the bolts and, very often, a broken ear will be the result of the ill-advised effort.
