Throttle cable attachment to gas pedal

Does anyone know a fix for that little plastic ring that holds the throttle cable to the gas pedal arm? It sure seems like a weak link for a BB fuel system. What all needs replacement and where might one get the part(s)? I promise I don't stomp on it.

The "fix" is replacing the plastic retainer. It's still available from GM under the original part number, GM #403929 (for almost 5 bucks each, GM list) or from sources like Dr. Rebuild. It's also a VERY, VERY WISE piece to carry a spare of. It doesn't take up too much room in the car. Thank Dr. Rebuild for that tip, not me.

By the way, this attachment is not unique to big block cars. It was used for all 1968 to 1973 Corvettes.

Dale I needed one of these for my 70 many many years ago. Like mentioned above, I bought a replacement and a spare. Sure did not cost $5. Have not had to use the spare yet!

          Jim------

Most of these GM "small parts" that used to be inexpensive now cost a lot more. I'm sure this is at least partly due to the fact that the volume for these things is so low now, that manufacturers charge a lot more to GM for "short runs". So, GM passes this on to the customers. Also, I think that GM may have come to the (rightful) conclusion that nickel-and-dime parts aren't worth carrying. I'm just glad that they continue to have the parts available, and if charging more gives them the incentive to do so, then I say it's just fine with me. I ALWAYS prefer that they raise the price rather than discontinue an item. One always has the option of not buying it if they think the price is too high.

By the way, look at the price a lot of folks will pay for these "small items" AFTER GM discontinues them.

I just got two for $4.99 each. Not bad for what I have in the car now, and its not much fun with it sitting in the hangar, so I'm happy getting off with just a ten spot.

Joe if I needed one and I could get it, I would gladly pay the $5 for this part to make my car operational again. One of the most expensive parts I have bought was back in the early 80's. The part was for the outside door push button on my 68, just a flat round ring of steel. Don't remember the exact price right now, but one of the local parts men who had worked at the dealership for a lot of years, sold it to me for the dealerships price because of the cost of the piece. I did have to have it because the original one broke and I was glad it was available. I had bought a lot of parts for my 68 and 70 from him. One day the parts manager was there when I came in and went to the back and came out with a hand full of the chrome wing bolts for the new chrome Corvette ignition shielding I ordered and just gave them to me. I had ordered new shielding but no new wing bolts.

The little circular bezel was GM #9716320. When it was discontinued in July, 1996 it carried a GM list price of $36.25. In 1968 it carried a GM list price of $0.86. So, you can see this is one of those parts that increased in price much more than the inflation rate over the period.

When the throttle cable on my 1980 Olds broke in 1997 there was none avaiable. It had to be made special and it was not cheap. price does not matter when you need it bad enough. It beat tying a string or wire to the throttle shaft and pulling it thur the window in Jan. Dale
