    TI distributer

    Pulled the motor on my 69 L71 435HP. The distributer band has the following numbers which are incorrect and isn't listed in my assemble manual or judging book. Anyone know what it's off of;
    1112161 (or 01)
    Delco Remy
    2D5
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Rick -

The 1112101 was used on the '72 LT-1 350, which lines up with the April 5, 1972 date. 1112161 comes up as a late '72 passenger car 400.

      Rick,

      There is a 1112101 listed as a '72 255hp LT1 350 and a 1112051 listed as a '72 270hp LS5 454.

Could your dist be a 1112051?

Thanks John. I was guessing LT1 based on TI and the date code. Thanks for confirming I guess I have something to trade.

          Thanks Mark,
I'd have to look at the tags again, the 2nd to last didgit was giving us trouble. We thought a 6 or a 0. Is the 72 LS5 a TI distributor? Would a LT1 distributer work on a big block?

            Rick-----

If it's a TI distributor, it could not have been originally used for any of the applications previously mentioned. The last year for TI was 1971----no 1972 Corvette (or, any other Chevrolet) used TI for the 1972 or later model years. It is possible that someone switched tags, but I have no idea why they'd do this in this case.

All 1962-74 Corvette distributors, TI or not, will physically interchange between big block and small block engines. The mechanical and vacuum advance configurations usually differ between various engines but the rest of the distributor is the same.

              Joe,
Any other place on the distributor that would have a part # or is it just the tag?

                Rick------

The tag is it. If a tag is missing or if it's been "swapped", there's virtually no way to identify what part number the distributor was originally assigned.

The good news is that practically any of these distributors can be configured on a distributor machine to match any original mechanical advance configuration. Also, replacement vacuum controls are available to FUNCTIONALLY match just about any original vacuum control used on any given distributor part number. So, an "exact duplicate" of any original distributor configuration can be achieved and, then, the distributor can "proudly and accurately wear" the identification band of that configuration.

That's the way I'll go then. Tanks once again Joe.
