    1962 hard top mounting hardware

What is the proper mounting for the deck lid hard top mounting bolts. I have seem Rubber spacers, Star washers and just the sleeve bolt and nut.

    Thanks
    John

Thanks, is the rubber spacer suppose to be betweeh the bolt and the spacer when the hardtop is not on the car?

Ummmm, dunno. Never had a rubber spacer on any of the four C1s I've owned, all with hardtops.

I had found somewhere in the tech archives that the hardtop hardware came in an envelope in the center console. This included two rubber spacers/washers to be installed with the bolts when the hardtop wasn't on. To prevent leaks I guess. We all know how watertight the C1's were.

Well, all four of my C1s - a '56, 2 '61s and a '62 came to me "pre-owned" (euphanism for used car) and thus the tops were bolted in place until I removed them for the warm weather months. I don't remember any rubber grommets/spacers/washers with any of the cars. Perhaps some of our C1 "gurus" will jump in and help you out here.

              John -

That's absolutely true for midyears; don't recall it being so for C1's.

It would make sense for both. Is there any difference in the mounting hardware between the C1's and C2"s or is it a problem they caught on the C1's?

                  John -

The hardtop mounting hardware (to the top compartment lid surface) is different on midyears. The rubber sealing washers are shown on the hardtop installation sheet in the assembly manual, but they have a note referencing them to the Miscellaneous Shipping List; if you go there, you'll see them listed as being shipped in the cloth bag with the hardtop wrench, as the car was shippped from St. Louis with the hardtop installed, so the bolt heads weren't exposed to the elements. The owner's manual tells you to install the sealing washers on those hardtop bolts when the top is not in place, and says they're in the glove box.

The 62 came with the bag in the glove box. Were the sealing washers part of the contents of the bag?

If they're not shown on the hardtop installation sheet or on the Miscellaneous Shipping List sheet in the A.I.M., they weren't released; I don't have a '62 A.I.M. to check.

The aim shows the sleeve and a nut to mount the sleeve. Is there suppose to be a star washer like I have been led to believe. From what I see in the aim there was also no cloth bag to hold the hard top wrench. From what I see then, there are no rubber washers under the hold down bolts(No top on car), no star washers under the sleeve nut and no bag for the hard top wrench. Is this correct? There are a lot of parts people leading me to believe otherwise.

                        Thanks
                        John
