    C1 58 Door ???

Have a July built 1958. I got my High $$ door panels and started to mount them. The first thing I noticed was the the door latch pull was up to high about one inch higher on the door than the other side, then the arm rest had no mounting pad, and the lock shaft was too short. I quickly came to the conclusion that this was not a 58 door. Bummer. The door access panel on the latch
end of the door is square, the other doors is square also, but has a notch on the latch end.

Anybody have a idea what year this door is,and any ideas as to where to go now.

No Blue, Looking into Noland Adams book it seem to be a 56-57 door, So does someone make a interior door panel? Can I reuse any of the internal reinforcement and guts...

        Bubba got me good...

          Not the first time

Back in the 80's I visited a high-end resto shop in Ontario California, where I saw this gorgeous red '58 245 hp car. A $100k restoration bill. It was completely done....except the passenger door was nowhere to be seen. They had the same problem (59 or 60 door) and didn't recognize it until the very last stage of reassembly.

Assume you want both doors to be 58? I have a May 28, 58 and can check my doors and lactches if you you need to compare something specific. This is a one-year door. I don't have door panels right now but I think the 58 panel mounting is done with small clips/screws around the edge versus through the face of the panels as other years. In fact, I was checking the 58 AIM and noticed that the upper reveal retainer is a one-piece retainer. I think my doors use two small retainers (about 6" each)? I know there are some folks out there who know exactly what the differences are and hopefully they will weigh in. Regarding the spindles on various doors, I think short spindle hardware is about 7/8" and the long spindles are about 1 1/8"--not totally sure on this point.

I re-read your post about the door latch being too high on the door you got--that would make the door a 58 to me. Kinda sounds like your other door is not 58? I am sure you would be a lot better off if I would just go away ugh!

                Bubba Door...

Well the more I look at it the goofier it gets. I was wondering why I had a old door panel in the trunk, I matched it to a 57, the glass has a date of Aug 59, and there are no reinforcement inside the door. Just the guides for the window.
You are correct there are some different retainer brackets for the top panel.
The good news is the drivers door looks ok all 58 best I can tell
                Driver -door pull shaft 1 1/2" - window crank 1 1/4" - lock shaft 1"
                Pass -door pull shaft 1" - window crank 1 1/4" - lock shaft 1/2"

Looks like I need a bunch of parts to get out of this.

                  Re: Bubba Door...

Rick, I will take a picture of my doors tomorrow and add some measurements so that you know "what door" is really the 58. I will also dig some of my hardware out and take some spindle measurements. I might have an extra lock mech for 58--not sure. Think I understand the door rest issue as that really appears to be more like the earlier style door(s). Whatever, will take picture(s) and post for you to "see". I surely wouldn't buy anything else like hardware items until you know exactly what you need and will be getting. Later

There's a pair of 58 doors for sale on the Corvette Forum right now. They're licted on the C-1 parts for sale forum and I believe they're bare. Rich

Rick, took some pictures for you of driver door and hardware items. My camera battery went dead so will get another today sometime and hope you can view the photos and info by 10 or 11 this evening. I am in Texas. Bill
