    Long Island Corvettes

Just wanted to let you all know that I placed my first order with Long Island Corvettes and I was NOT pleased at all. They sent the wrong baffle (for an AFB instead of a Holley) and forgot to include a throttle rod bushing kit that I ordered. I asked them to replace the parts and next day air them since it was their mistake, but they refused. Since I am on the opposite side of the country it takes 7-8 days by UPS, and I didn't want to have my car down an additional week. They also wanted me to return the little $5 baffle, instead of just eating it (the postage and time would have been worth more). Just a heads up in case you are considering an order from these folks...

    Caveat Emptor.

I have purchased from them several times in the past. Not only was their service prompt, but their staff was helpful too. I would hope that you just had a bad experience.

Gary, I actually ordered based on a friend who had pretty good luck with them. I tried to explain that I have already waited over a week for the carb to come in and didn't want to wait another 7-10 days for a $5 part, but they refused to listen. I was more than a little annoyed that, after spending close to $500 with them, they refused to cut me a break and overnight the missing parts. Also, to insist that I box up the little plate, drive to the Post Office and mail it back was ridiculous. This will be my last order with them. There are plenty of bigger vendors out there with comparable pricing.

This is a minor point, but it's good to keep in mind. For a small item like the carb heat shield, US mail first class or prority mail is the way to go. You could slip it in an appropriate envelope with cardboard for stiffners and ship it for a buck or two. Up to 2 pounds is only $3.20. Best yet, it usually takes only 2-3 days and they deliver on Saturdays. Long Island could ship your replacement the same way and you'd have it in 2-3 days. I always use US mail for under 2 pound items. Cheaper and faster.

          Hi Mr. Gilmour!

Unfortunate that your expereince with Richard was not good. I have been ordering from LI for about the past 5-6 years. Occasionally I've had a part misenclosed/omitted on large orders but this has always been rapidly rectified. Richard is extremely knowledgible regarding the 1963-7 cars. I have found the parts LI sells to be either exact or the closest currently avalable. I would also highly reccomend Zip (Tim Pope) or Corvette Central (Roger). Interestingly, I have also had unfortunate experience with an vendor who shall remain unnamed (but frequently cited on this board!) who, when selling me a part as "NOS" that was in reality a remanufacture, told me that "...do me a favor and throw away my catalog. I hate dealing with you NCRS people because you are so picky."

          Caveat emptor.
