    C2 front nose support brackets

It is probably in th JG some where but I can't find it .

Were the support brackets used to support the front nose of the body of a "66 AOSmith car ",present during body paint, black out paint , or installed afterwards? This not only tells me which color they should be ,but the condition of the various bolts and washers as well.

Likewise for the center support which also serves to secure the grill assembly?

This should answer part of the question. The supports are plainly visable on the body as it is being readied for primer. So, They would have had everything from primer, paint and blackout on them. As for the grille bracket, when installed, I think that was done later.

Re: More Questions About That Picture???

        Wayne,

Thanks for sharing this picture, but I have a few more questions after looking at it.

Doesn't it look like the inner front fender well has already received undercoating??? Is this correct?

Also, didn't 1966 big block and a/c equipped cars have the removable battery access panel? From the photo, it looks like it does not.

        Regards,

        James West

          James,

Yes it does appear that the undercoat operation was done before paint
,at least at St. Louis. I would assume the same for AOS. Things are not as they appear as far as the BB issue. The picture is flipped so what you see is really the right side. Sorry, my mistake in posting it. Other interesting things to note. All side pipe changes are already in place, even the drilled screw hole for the shield bkt.

All front grille bkts including the U nuts are already installed, for those who want to know what finish they will eventually have.

This is a St. Louis body. Do you know how to tell?

            It's a St.Louis Body because...

No AO Smith cars had sidepipes?

              Wayne,

I would say it is a St. Louis body because it is a side pipe equipped car. AOS did not produce side pipe equipped bodies.

OK, The picture has been corrected.

That is too obvious. Lets assume that the body was not a Side Pipe car. Then how would you tell?

Really, What do you see that indicates a St. Louis Body?
                    Thanks, Ray

                      Wayne,

Thanks for the great Picture! That answers most of my question in spades !

Are you saying in your later post to James that the center support was also present before body painting ,or just commenting on the side brackets ?

I give up as to how you can tell it is from the St. Louis plant ,unless it is because of the windows behind them. Something I recognized from other photos of the plant.
