Well, maybe I should say back from Scottsdale, because there are now many different auctions in the area. We went to three this time around.
I've been reading the BJ comments in various threads, and I just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I'm certainly no proponent of Barrett as an auction company, but anyone into cars and other toys should go to this event. This was my fourth time and I still found enjoyment in it, although now I only need a day there, rather than two. If you are new to it, you need at least 2 days to see everything. It has circus atmosphere with so much going on and so much over-the-top stuff that it makes your head spin. There is nothing else like it.
The crowds this year seemed no bigger than in the past couple years. We were there on Saturday and it was not crowded until early afternoon.
I watched what I thought was a regular old 1960 Corvette cross the block at 175K! There must have been something special about it that I missed. And a 1958 Big Brake with Regional Top Flight go for 180K. The Pinninfarina-bodied Vette was a spectacular car and I thought it might go for 2 mil. Ended up at 1.6.
Other auctions were fun too. Russo had a great variety and RM is always a classy affair. My favorite of the bunch.
If you haven't been to Arizona in January, don't listen to any of the naysayers. Get yourself down there. Sun, fun, cigars, and beautiful cars. It's a blast.
