63 to 65 Fuel Injection tip.

If you own a 63 to 65 with FI here is a little tip for you. I have discovered (again) that if you buy a typical repro chrome choke tube and install it as is you may in fact have a small vacuum leak.
Reason is the cheap choke tube doesn't have a real ferrel on the end of the tube where it is attached to the choke cover via a fitting nut. The line is crimped to resemble a ferrel. Here in lies the problem. Even if the nut that screws onto the choke cover is tight the chrome line is loose. I don't mean to say it's falling off but it sure isn't snug. Therefore you will have a vacuum leak.
Typical repro chrome choke tubes are chrome plated stainless. Not suitable for NCRS judging. Solution is to make your own out of steel and get it plated. Don't forget to get a fitting nut chrome plated also. Then use a brass ferrel and you have a first class job.
The repro tube though is copied after an original as far as the configuration of the end that goes to the choke cover.
When judging mechanical you should use your magnet to check this line. No matter whose catalog you seem to pick up all that is available is chrome plated stainless even if they list it otherwise.
If you know of a vendor that has the proper line please let us know. Thanks, John D.

Rob,I had some reproduced but got into trouble. The plater didn't listen and put on sooo much plating that the ferrel and the nut wouldn't fit the tube. Then he plated the threads of the nut, etc. SO I had to get various files to enlarge the brass ferrel. Then I had to file the chrome off the fitting, etc. When I was done it was a bubba job so I threw the towel in. Not easy getting parts made. People don't pay any attention to what you write for instructions. Then they make it wrong. Guys complain. Then you are expected to make the part over again and again. Eventually after you have lost your butt on the item you give up. JD
