57 Vacuum wiper motor accessory

Looking at a pic.of the early 1957 FI article and wondered why it had the accessory aided vacuum item that car used. The 57 shown would have to have a vacuum wiper motor to use it, but we know 57 wiper was 12Volt . Just thought it was interesting to see it in this pic.

Roy,

At a guess, this picture was taken some time before 1957, when vacuum wipers were still common. I know they were common in 1955, not sure of 56. Were electric wipers an option in 55 and 56 cars?

electric wipers were still an option in 57 chevy pass cars. mike

I wonder if there was thought to making vacuum standard and electric optional in Corvettes?

I think I remember that vacuum was a eastern thing and electric a western thing (not a option) may be some one here knows.
