Hi All - with respect to UPC 6, sheet B4, is the rubber block with female sleeve inserts that fits inside of part 1 (mounting asm-trans.) replaceable? - the metal support is in good shape, it seems as if the block is composed of a rubber block (about 3/4 of the whole thing) glued onto hard black plastic piece, which is the piece that is glued on to the metal support - it is the rubber part that is pretty shot - thanks!! - stephen

Re: 1970 Tranny Mount
You mean like a..."retread"?
No, the rubber portion is not replaceable; it was molded onto the metal bracket when the mount was made. But, in this case, the repros are virtually identical to the GM part...buy with confidence. Besides, no one will EVER get under there to check for a GM part number.- Top

Re: 1970 Tranny Mount
Not the same.
Manual transmission mount part number is 3913498 (UPC 6, Sheet B4). Automatic transmission mount part number is 3872247 (UPC M40, Sheet A13). The bolts (inserts?) that attach the mount to the transmission, Item 3 on both sheets, also have different part numbers and are not the same. However, the difference may be in length or type rather than diameter and thread size.- Top

Yes, there is a difference between the transmission mount for manual transmission cars and THM-400-equipped cars. The transmission mount for Powerglide equipped C2's and THM-350-equipped C3's is the same as the manual trans mount. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1970 Tranny Mount
Stephen----
The GM mounts are now discontinued. The last part number prior to their discontinuation had a list price of about $150. They are much less expensive in the aftermarket. However, beware of inferior parts. The GM pieces, when they were available, were absolutely th best quality available. That's why I "paid the price" to purchase several prior to their discontinuation [none for sale]. There are some ok aftermarket pieces out there, but you have to be careful. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1970 Tranny Mount
Joe, The difference in transmission mounts is the center to center bolt spacing for the upper part of the mount, on the TH400 tailshaft housing. The TH400 has a slightly wider bolt spacing than the PG, TH350 and manual trans. The lower mount spacing, where the mount fastens to the trans mount bracket the attaches to frame, I believe is the same on all the mounts. A lot of the aftermarket trans mounts usually have the tailsheft mounting holes elongated slightly, so they can be used on all transmission's. Dave- Top

Re: 1970 Tranny Mount
The one I bought from Willcox in the middle nineties was identical to the GM part in all respects, except it did not have the GM markings.
Willcox also had the NOS GM part at that time but recommended the aftermarket part; he sent them both and I compared them side by side. I could see absolutely no substantial difference. I concluded that the original manufacturer was continuing to make and sell the part after GM stopped buying them. I returned the GM mount...same quality for less money was the deciding factor.- Top

Re: 1970 Tranny Mount
The transmission mount that I purchased, required elongating the holes. Also the bolt threads in the mount are 3/8" instead of 7/16" per AIM. This was the type of mount that Joe was referring to. As anyone purchase a quality transmission mount or know of one.- Top

Re: 1970 Tranny Mount
Chuck----
I think you'll find that things are different now if you go down to buy a mount. I don't know if there are even any on the market that are made in the US or Canada. Some of the ones that I have seen look substantially different than the GM mount.
I've also heard of problems with the aftermarket engine mounts breaking with some degree of frequency. These appear like they are "cut from the same cloth" as the transmission mounts, so it makes me wonder about the durability of the transmission mounts, as well.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1970 Tranny Mount
thanks all - the real shame is the original i have is perfect with respect to the metal bracket - but the rubber insert is shot - shame one can't just purchase that if that is all that is needed - i have seen two vendors with a repro part - ecklers and zip - both at $14 - unless someone has some spare nos's for sale...don't see any other option - do you? - thanks stephen- Top

The rubber is ALWAYS the part that fails; the steel frame never experiences any problem. I'll bet that every single one that's EVER been replaced was replaced for the exact problem you're having. There is no way to just replace the rubber portion since its bonded to the steel frame.
I've seen these aftermarket mounts selling for as little as $3.50.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
