    c2 restore

I have a 1965 c2, 327/300 coupe that I have owned for 20 years. I verified when I bought it that the numbers matched. It has degraded and it is time for a restore but looking at the plate codes I found out it was originally black with a silver interior (it is now red/black). I found an article on a 64 with black/silver and it indicated that this was a rare color combination (don't know if same in 65). I have some car/mechanical experience and have the shop space to do some of the restoration. I could also shop out the whole thing too. My biggest unknown is how to do all the research and documentation on the car and the restoration. Any advice, insight or experience you can share would be great. This is my first visit to the site and I am not an NCRS member (yet). Thanks in advance.

    Steve,

    First, welcome to the database

Second, please join the NCRS and get involved with a local chapter near you - you didn't indicate where you live, but I bet there is a local chapter you could get involved with to help you as you enter into this restoration

Third, even if you don't join NCRS, go to the NCRS store and order the Judging Guide for the year of your car; also order any other manual, guide, etc. that may be availble for your year of car

Fourth, if you plan on having the car judged, you need to restore it to what the TRIM TAG tells you - otherwise you lose all of the points for paint, etc.

BOTTOM line - get involved with the NCRS - great bunch of folks!!!!!!

check out my website for restoration: http://www.pbase.com/c5vetter

      Thanks Rick,
I live about an hour north of Atlanta. I will check for the nearest chapter of NCRS. Thanks!

        Steve,

probably either CAROLINA or FLORIDA Chapters would be the closest to you - nothing in close to Atlanta, that I know of - click on the CONTACTS button on the NCRS website and there are links to all of the Chapters

            Black/Silver better than Red/Black anyday

in my book, the guys above give you great advice, take it you wont be sorry. If you want to check your body color there a couple of ways, one easy way is to remove one of the sill plates in the door opening and take some thinner and remove the paint from a small spot to see whats under it, hope you find black just above the primer.
