    66 L79 Aluminum Manifold

I just purchased a 66 red on red L79 Roadster and the aluminum intake manifold has been powdercoated silver. I know that the original finish on the manifold is important and that I should not abrasive blast it. What is the best way to remove the paint and still end up with the original finish? What is the secret to restore the correct finish? Thanks for any help.

    Bill,

I sent mine out to Jerry Mcneish , as others had suggested on this board and it came back looking beautiful!
You can call him (he actually answers the phone ) and ask him whether he will accept it with the paint on it or not. If he dosen't just use paint stipper first .Either way he is good, fast and reasonable.
Here is his web site. http://www.z28camaro.com

      Bill,

      I just re-read your message.

First off, congrats on your new purchase !

Secondly, does paint stripper work on Powder Coat ?

I don't think that paint stripper is effective on removing powder coating and I don't know what is.

          Bill...

If you tell Jerry how the intake is currently finished, he will give you a price for putting it back to original. For example, mine needed a repair, so he had to clean it twice, once in order to make the repair and again, after to leave the proper finish. I was charged accordingly.
