    1970 door panels

i need to get some new deluxe door panels for my 70. i looked at the al knoch web sight and they were $880.00 a pair. i also see some on ebay from wilcox for $589.00. who has the best part? will the cheaper ones judge as well as the al knoch parts? what should i get? i want the car to be right but at the same time i dont want to waste money.

I am not sure what Ernie has for sale on ebay. I am aware that there are some manufacturers trying to dispose of some stock that was manufacturered to less that the exacting standards Corvette owners/restorers demand.

Al knock is the best, however, I do not believe the backing passes NCRS muster nor does the veneer. If memory serves me, GM used real wood for the veneer and you can tell the difference. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. The orginal backing form GM was a brown type cardboard material and you can see it if you look carefully through the door handle opening.

You may get full points for Al Knock but they are not the same as the originals.

You can save money by reusing your trim.

Al will make them with the cardboard backing if you order it that way

all of my trim needs rechrome. i think the cheapest way for me is to replace it all. the bottom chrome trim is wavey so i dont want to reuse that anyway. i have some nice woodgrain panels on my 72 driver. i can use them on the 70 and the repops on the 72.
