    68 CARB NEEDED

The suspension is done, and I must now focus on the motor. I have a 68 327/300 auto w/ac. The original 7028208 quadrajet was previosly replaced with a 7043203. I would appreciate any suggestions on finding the correct carb. I haven't heard good things about factory rebuilt carbs, and I am not to excited about rebuilding the incorrect one that is currently in the car

    Thanks

      Re: 68 CARB NEEDED

      Dave,

Not to discourage you, but it took me 3 years to find my 7028207 carb for '68 327/300 4-speed, and there are many similar stories on this board. I checked E-Bay, Hemmings & such regularly. I found one @ Carlisle, & the guy wanted $800 for a carb that looked like it was on fire once.

I had to buy a complete 327/300 engine from a guy in Maryland who ran an ad in Hemmings. I offered him the price of the motor ($250) just to ship me the carb, & he agreed. Looking back, I should have drove the 4 hours to pick up the whole motor & sold the rest on E-Bay.

The good thing about a '68 Q-Jet is that the date code is stamped into the base plate, and there are many '68 base plates out there. Later years had the date stamped on the carb body. I got mine for $65 from Chicago Corvette (No Boo's Please).

For now, it may be best to rebuild what you have until your quest is complete. I had my current carb (service 7029207) rebuilt 2 years ago for about $100 until I found the correct carb.

      Good luck,

      Anthony
