69 427 water pump bolts

Should the four bolts that hold the water pump to the block have washers under them or were they installed without washers? I say without but I've seen a few pics with washers under the bolts so now I wonder...

I don't think that waterpump retaining bolts ever used lockwashers. However, if a stud was used for one of the bolt positions, lockwashers were often used UNDER THE NUT for whatever was attached by the stud.

Thanks Joe...that's what I was thinking but some of these pics that I have been collecting show washers under the heads so I was starting to wonder... Mind you none of the pics that I have are of unmolested engines so who knows what went on. I think I'll go without the washers.
