Does anyone repair fan shrouds? My 67 SB has a section on the bottom about 2 inches wide and 4 inches long, that Bubba cut out. I looked in the Drive line and archives and could not find a name or phone #. Thank you in advance. Dale

Re: 67 fan shroud repair
Hi Dale:
This repair is something you can do yourself if you are so inclined. I repaired some damage in both my fan shroud and my spare tire tub, and the repairs came out surprisingly well.
The process requires some careful planning and some patience, since you have to make a mold or some type of backing arrangement to support the fiberglass while it sets up, and the mold has to have a release compound on it to prevent the fiberglass from bonding to the mold.
The key element is to add some coloring compound to the resin to make it match the shroud. I used a mixture of black and grey from Tap Plastics, as suggested in a post by Gary Beaupre in the archives. The fiberglass mat that I used was made with chopped fibers. I have some extra materials if you want to try this.
The size of the repair that you need to make is a bit challenging, but if it's in an out-of-the-way place it may not have to be perfect in order to be inconspicuous.- Top
