I'm having a hard time starting the engine on this car when its cold. When I purchased it some time ago, the settings on the carb were way off base so I re-set everything back to factory specifications as per the service manual. Even with this having been done it is still difficult to start the engine but once it does start it runs fine. It can be shut down after starting and will fire immediately when the ignition switch is hit.
There is one one thing I notice which seems odd to me. After setting the choke by depressing the accelerator, the choke plate does not open as the engine is cranking but once it fires the plate opens up to its specified limit. Is this normal? It seems to me that this closed position of the choke plate is not allowing air into the engine and preventing it from starting. The vacuum line to the choke pull off is clear as is the passage to the base of the carb. The choke pull off is in fine shape as it holds vacuum when fully compressed if the tube is plugged with a finger. Any information or suggestions regarding this situation would be appreciated. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all the members and their families!
