New Old Stock correct Corvette parts are insane!

I think I've reached my threshold point on correct NOS parts! A pair of original rocker arm cover gaskets went for $121.00 w/shipping costs. I was in the ebay bidding war on these early on, but no more. I was also the underbidder on those mechanical lifters that were talked about recently. I have 3 NOS 3904362 camshafts, but only 2 sets of NOS lifters, I could of used a third set.

I like originality a lot, but this is getting rediculous. I will still keep my cars all GM with correct original mechanical pieces, such as fan clutches, fuel pumps, pistons, clutches, cams, valvesprings, etc and in stock configuration, no oversize pistions, undersize main or rod bearings, sufaced or milled heads, intake manifolds, bored blocks, etc.

But as far as fan belts, gaskets, oil filters, air filters, tires, batteries, spark plugs.... forget it, I'm done paying. I like participating in the NCRS curriculum and will just live with the points deductions. It's way more important to me to know that the guts of the engine are all GM correct and in specs, than to have the square mesh air filter for $600 or the proper oil filter for $175.

this stuff is being bought up by "PROFESSIONAL RESTORERS" who charge to restore the car way more than the car is worth when finished so parts cost means nothing. unless you have a gimic like "last sting ray" you will never get the money back if you buy these so called "correct parts"

I work with Mustang restoration parts in the summer, and a little while back we supplied a BOSS 302 customer a "replica" camshaft. Being a very exacting person, he took it to a friend at Ford to verify the lobe design. He sent us the computer trace of the valve events, and the factory spec and measured spec were displayed as red and blue traces. Well, theoretically. The curve was almost entirely purple. At a fraction of the cost of an NOS D0ZZ-6250-A cam, I'd use the replica.

Re: WHERE are the NOS 684 BRAKES?

So what do I do with the new 57 Air Box car that needs a complete set of brakes? Get the 401k fund ready to spend?
