I,m trying to get my covers to look like new again. The raised ribs are easy to polish but the recesed area is very hard to match the paint color. Anyone know of the the correct paint color?

Re: 67 side pipe cover restoration
I used Krylon aluminum paint on the recesses. I only did the front turns and "feathered" the paint into the existing.
Look at it this way..... "I've got to do something because the existing finish is poor so I'll experiment with paint colors". Do a small portion of one cover before you settle on what looks best. Then report back here your findings for others benefit. Keep in mind, that when complete, the entire cover recess would be uniform, so if the paint selected isn't a perfect match it still would probably be undetectable if close.....- Top

OK I'll reveal this secret...
Get yourself a can of Krylon's Hi-Heat Aluminum #1402. Can be hard to find locally, but worth the search. You'll be pleased with the match, and it's temp. resistant too.
I also use this paint to simulate silver cad on C2 hood latches. Hood props too. Bake it out for durability and you're in business. Sold a '65 to an NCRS judge with this paint on the latches and he couldn't believe it when I told him they were painted.
