Found some more info about our 63. Car continues to have some hidden treasures.....
I got the Powerglide date(thanks Todd!). It's T02 15D, Tonowanda Feb 15 day shift, about 12 days before the car assy and 3 days prior to engine assy. When were the engines and transmissions usually assembled together? Was it a separate assembly area or was the trans attached at the same place as the engine was assembled? Just curious if anyone knows.
Also, discovered the radiator numbers under what appears as original paint. Took a tracing and I see 63 A(Jan 63). I read somewhere that the center top mount bracket was 1" wide on 63/64 originals, and 2" on 65up. This one is about 1 1/2" so I'm confused. Ordered my new C2 books from the store but not in yet. I am really thinking this could not be the original radiator. 44 years? Unlikely even if the car only has 67000 miles on it. Maybe a restoration rad stamped up with the right stuff? Is there some telltale difference I could see?
Close ups of the engine stamp pad too. I see on both the cast date and the assy stamp traces of yellow paint. Anyone seen that before? The cast date is not very nice. You can barely make it out but it's B123. It took me quite some time before purchase to verify it. It's definitely cast iron, unfortunately it must've had some crud in the mold when they cast it, leaving it pretty difficult to read.
Also I'm thinking the carpeting isn't original, but just very faded replacement. What does the original carpet backing?
More pics....
Thanks,
Rich
