    C2 floor mats

I've got a set of clear (now slightly yellowed) floor mats with the Bowtie emblem in them in my '66 that came with the car when I bought it over twenty years ago. They looked aged then and even more so now. I always wondered if these are original to the car or an aftermarket item purchased by a previous owner. Are there supposed to be part numbers anywhere on the mats that I can look for? Your assistance is appreciated, as always. Happy Holidays to All!

    Joe,

I've heard that the clear mats were available then, maybe as a dealer option? Similar to today I suppose, buying add-ons at the Chevy parts counters. Al Knoch sells mats for the C2's that are "clear", stating "as original".

Joe ---- IIRC, my original '67 clear mats had no part numbers on them and the reproductions are virtually identical except the aged yellowish color. '66 mats should be the same.

i collected dealer installed c-2 floor mats as early as 1972 and all the dealer-installed mats are much stiffer than the repos that hit the market in the 80's and subsequently. the original dealers mats were light tan in color back in the 70's and have progressivly gotten darker over the years. the repos have tended to remain clear, some of which i've had since the mid-80's. mike

Mike, I agree with the stiffer originals, had the originals in my one owner 63, slightly yellowish but firmer. I bought repros for my 64 and they are flimsy, roll down onto the floorboards, generally not the same firm material as original.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

i put a set of repo floor mats in the wife's 63 roadster 20 years ago. even to this day, the flimsy damn things refuse to lay flat and stay put. wife suggested super glue-- i suggested a thin film of super glue to her upper and lower lip but that fell on deaf ears. original dealer installed mats stay where ya put em. mike
