    70 LT1 RADIATOR

    i need to replace the copper radiator on my 70 lt-1. i want to find a nice original because this will be a judged car. what other years did this radiator fit? i have been looking for just a 70 radiator and have had no luck. i would imagine its the same part as other years, right? this one has the cap on the radiator.

    If you still have your original, then DeWitts has a correct core you can use to have yours "recored." That would be your best route.

    There "may" be other end tanks that could be used, mated with a center core from DeWitts, and end up with a correct piece. I suspect that Joe L may know.

    It's not a huge points loss for a non-Harrison radiator as long as various other features "look" the part.

      i am going to buy the dewitt core but my left side end tank is destroyed. i have had no luck with the end tank so i am looking for the whole radiator to pull the tanks from. i dont know what years were the same for this left side tank.

        The last thing I'd want to put in my car would be a 37-year-old radiator with an unknown history, knowing how little maintenance most cooling systems get. You might check with Tom DeWitt - I believe he has correct replacement cores you can use with your original side tanks.

          I believe that the LH tank might be interchangeable with some of the passenger car units. You might have to change the neck, but I think that you should be able to make it work.

            i will replace the core either way. i just dont have a left side end tank. i will buy the dewitt aluminum radiator if i cant find a tank. i just dont want to lose the points unless i have to.

              m------

              The same basic radiator was used from 1969-1972 for the following applications:

              1969---some L-46, all small blocks with C-60. It was also used with all small blocks with THM-400. However, for this application the right side tank has oil cooler provisions;

              1970---most LT-1, all L-46, all small blocks with C-60. It was also used for all small blocks with THM-400. However, for this application it has the right side oil cooler;

              1971-72---all LT-1 (except ZR-1), all small blocks with C-60. It was also used for all small blocks with THM-400. However, for this application, right side tank has oil cooler provisions.

              That's it.

                M,

                The left side (driver's side) tank doesn't have the Harrison logo on it (that I can recall). So, even a reproduction end tank might work for you. Depends how exact you'd like to be.

                As Dick noted, I would highly suspect that some passenger car units have the same left hand end tank. Also, you might want to check with a local radiator repair place to see if they can fix your original. You never know...

                  not a real wide range. i will take this damaged end tank to the kissimmee show and see if i can match it up with something. sounds like this is my best bet. if all else fails the dewitt aluminum radiator looks close just does not have the small details like the logos.

                              Thats why Patrick, John et al suggested you buy the new copper core from Dewitts and reuse the two correct original copper tanks. That way you will have a complete copper radiator that should get 100% of the judging points and will perform perfectly as well.
