Greetings, get a coffe for this one..............
We just bought my wife a 63 SWC automatic for Christmas.....and of course blew my 62 budget to heck. She always wanted one. Every time we'd go to a Corvette event she was always looking for one. It had to be auto so I figured there can't be any of those around under a million bucks. Never thought we'd find one. We found this very nice unrestored quite original car(original 300hp & powerglide, 67,000 miles) with a few non-std upgrades(AFB replacement, front disks & aft-mkt AC).
I was pondering to take a long ride up into the cold climate to look at it. Then at about 4pm the other day she said, "Let's leave now and go look at it"! Got packed, loaded up, along with our 2 cocker spaniels in the backseat of my Silverado by 5pm and started the 800 mile jaunt through the night to check it out next morning. Inspected it, called C2 buddies for advice(Thanks Chuck & Warren!), drove it, looked, talked and looked. Special thanks to you guys that wrote the spec guide. I felt so confident making this purchase because of it. I also spent quite some time on my laptop on the hotel wifi on the forum archives the first night reviewing 63 stuff. We spent quite some time going over numbers on the car. Took a while to verify the block cast date, as the aftermarket ac hoses were in the way. Found the cast date to be correct time before assembly! Heads were double hump so I figured original 461's too. Intake original, exhaust manifolds original. Nailed it all down. Actually spoke to 2nd prior owner through the seller too, who has the original front brake parts that went with the car. We did the deal the next morning. Got uhaul & towed it back that afternoon nonstop(minus leglift stops for the dogs & me) and got in around 4:30 am! I drove the entire 15 hour return trip, with plenty of coffees to go to stay awake. Everyone passing us on I95 would look at the car. You know how it is on 95. They's fly up in the left lane many of them, but many would slow down, take out their cellphone cameras and snap away. At night, even the 18 wheelers would flash at me if I passed them. Was quite a blast.
Unbelievably, there were many coincidences about this car. Just so happens the car was built on my mother's exact birthdate month & day. While writing up the deal the sellers mom's walked in and said hello. She was going to the hairdresser because it was HER birthday and her husband was taking her to dinner that night! Below photos taken in Emporia Virginia where we stopped for a bite to eat. Just so happens we stayed at the motel where that driveway leads to almost exactly 3 years ago on a trip to FL to visit our son. Another coincidence. Several other striking coincidences to do with the deal too. It had to be.
So it's gonna take a REAL long time to finish my 62 now. Ok all you C2 guys.....be prepared for plenty of questions!:-)

p.s. Wife wants to join NCRS now that she's a Corvette owner. Is there a family discount!:-)
