    Tire date codes

Where do I find the date code on the tire? I have some original tires from my 70 that were supposedly put on in 1972, but I don't have a clue where or what to look for as far as a date code. They are G60X15 Goodyear. Thanks, CHris

    Re: Tire date codes

    Chris,
If your tire was made after January 1971 it will have an 11 digit code embossed on the inner side of the tire. The last 3 numbers of that code will be the week/year. I have a set that ends in 171 which is the 17th week of 1971. If they are correct they will be nylon cord F 70 X 15's. Goodyear Speedway or Firestone Super Sports. Radials started in 1973 and Polyglass was in that time frame also but Polyglass was never used on a Corvette. .

        Re: Tire date codes

So before that date, Fed regs did not require the TIN (tire identification number) but some tires may have left the factory having already integrated the TIN onto the tire molds. So your tires may have a code and may not...

Look along the rim and you'll see what looks like a poorly stamped label with a combination of numbers and alpha characters.

Here's link to an article tire safety and shows examples of what to look for.

          Tom,
Pre January 1971 tires had information embossed on the tire. I believe it gave dates, tire plants etc. De-coding it is not nearly as easy as the post Jan. 1971 tires. I've seen that label you refer to but have no idea what it means. I've also seen ink stamps with codes as well. The manugacturing data was embossed into the tire and not part of the mold.
