    Re: C1 with interesting changes

    Hi Rich,

The casting number on the block is #3756519 so this must be a late production block, on the front of the block in front of the head I found the stamp G611? So I know I need to find the intake Manifold # 3739653, The car came with A 3 speed transmission when I bought it, So to change it from the powerglide would be tracking down several more parts, bellhousing etc. I'll order the manual. Thanks for all your help and information. Susan

        Hi Susan,

Yes, it's a 1961 block, the last month of 61 car production. The G611 is behind the distributor? You said front but did you mean rear?

If it's the engine cast# I think the 6 in G611 must be something else. The G is July, then 1 or 2 digit for the day of the month, then the year. Maybe G211(in 61 21st was a friday), or G311(in 61 31st was a monday). I'd guess 21 as it gave a little time till the end of the month. I doubt any were cast on the 31st.

So now.....You can keep what you have, like I did 20 years ago, or find another 519 block cast before the car was built and do it all up. It depends on where you're headed with the car.

        Rich

            C1 with correct block

            Hi Rich,

My block is casting # 3756519, The stamp on the passenger side is F922CT, The number I'm looking at is at the front of the block towards right side front ahead of the head on that side that has a stamp G611? not sure what that means, Is the gear drive on the back of the generator for the TACH? Generator was switched from the passenger side to the driver side of car. So the Tach cable is pinned along the passenger side complete. When this car came with 3 or 4 speed would it have been a borg warner?

If it's a four speed it would be a cast iron Borg Warner

If you are saying you found a date in the front of the engine I think you have found the date of the waterpump instead of the date of the engine... The engine date should be on the back of the engine.

PS a waterpump can easely be replaced by a more correct one if desired but realise the bolts holding the waterpump are also holding the engine so replace them one by one for threadwire if you want to remove the waterpump without dropping the engine ;-) Don't ask how I found out!

                    greetings,
                    Rob.
