Steve McQueen Corvette

I recently read a new book called McQueen's Machines, The cars and bikes of a
Hollywood Icon. It mentions that Steve McQueen had owned a Corvette for a period
of time back in 60's-70's. It was then smashed in the front by his wife in a
driving accident. She was a new driver regarding a 4-speed.
Does anyone know anthing about this car? Year, color etc. Thanks Big John

Hi John, Just got a new Motor Trend Magazine in the mail (Jan.2008) today and it has a write up about the new 2008 Bullitt Mustang. On page 110 it talks about the book "McQueens Machines" and shows a picture of Steve and Neile young son Chad standing in front of a 1966 Milano Maroon Coupe, looks like a Harry Mann Chevrolet plate frame on the Corvette too. In the article it mentions that this midyear coupe was preceded by a late 1950's Corvette that Neile crashed while working in Vegas. Is that the Corvette your are looking for ? Or did she crash the 1966 too. Save the Wave. I'm sure both Corvttes are still around and owned by somebody, and they probably don't have a clue the McQueen's were the original owners.
