    Stock speakers

I'm trying to locate replacement original 4x6 (10 ohm) in-dash speakers for my 71'. Having no luck with any of the better known part suppliers. I dont want to damage the original am/fm stereo radio. If the proper replacements are a lost cause, is there something else that can be used safely with the original radio?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike-----

No problem. Order GM #16157512. This is a 4 X 6, 10 OHM speaker that's a direct replacement for your originals. These things list for about 47 bucks each. However, you should be able to get them for a LOT less through Delco dealers.

These are NOT going to be up to contemporary high quality, "super-duper" stereo speakers. However, they will be as good or better than the original speakers were when they were new.

You can also have your original speakers re-coned (assuming you have them), but I really think these new ones are the way to go.

            Michael,

I had a local shop in Tulsa rebuild my 65 speakers and they work like new.

            Speakerworks
            4732 S Mingo Rd
            Tulsa, Ok

            918-664-6299

He was reasonable, about $50.00, and about one week turnaround. You would have to add shipping.

Unfortunately, no. The 1963-67 speakers have an attached "transformer" that I understand is necessary for compatibility with the 1963-67 radio units. These speakers don't have that device.

                    Joe,

Thats a bummer , because I don't have my original speaker. I can only hope the ones CC offer have the proper transformer ,and don't ruin my newly rebuilt radio.

                    Thanks for the responce,

                    Jim

I think that the correct speakers for 63-67 are reproduced.

Note that the wiring connector will most likely differ from the original on the 71. You can modify it to make it work. That's what I did until I "get around" to having a batch reconed. I left the original factory wiring harness unmodified.

FYI, I'm quite sure this speaker is sold for a very good price thru most of the Corvete parts vendors. $18.95 at Corvette Central right now.
