Trying to find owner of 61 Vin # 3145

    Copied this from another forum

61 Corvette #3145 Original Window Sticker

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just ran into a neat "old timer" from the Paulding, Ohio area who owned a silver 61 Corvette years ago. He was showing me some pictures and he happened to still have the original window sticker to it. I told him we should try to reunite the sticker with the car. Here's a picture of the sticker. Car was last seen in the Ft. Wayne Indiana area. Would be happy to put the current owner together with the past owner. It's a long shot, but I had to try !!

    Cheers,

    Craig

    Craig,

Great Find! Hope you can match it with the car. I checked the 61 Registry but not there. http://www.c1registry.com

You could put an ad in the next Driveline as many members are not on this forum. Another possible thought that just came to mind......put a copy of it for sale on Ebay(make sure you define "copy"), as practically the entire world looks at that. May add more hits to help find the match.

This brings up an interesting point. Is there any "central repository" for things like this. I'm talking about one location that people can send info like this to. I see lots of "where is my original engine ads", and also notices like this one.

I have the build sheet for a 72, and would also like to reunite it with the car. I tried placing an ad on Ebay, making it clear that the item was not for sale. No luck.

I have often thought that The National Corvette Museum is the place for this info, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

All I am really talking about is a database that is keyed on VIN numbers.

Always imagined one of the big parts vendors would start a registry as they come across the most vettes. Legal issues aside.

Whichever vendor does start a registry will hit a huge financial home run, theoretically.

There are a lot of vettes out there that will never be entered in any registry as it may open a can of worms. Through attrition as cars pass from owner to owner more vettes may get registered.

Not all owners are tuned into 'clubs', but the vast majority who need a 'vette' part do get directed to Ecklers as it is historically well known by non vette car people/mechanics. Lot more vendors with good reps out there today and at least one would make a good clearing house.

Craig, was poking around the Indiana DMV site and found this:

...then click right blue box area "search vehicle title records".

For a $5 one time fee you can request info by year make & vin#. It looks like it's a bit confusing. Only other issue is they need a reason for the request, and like most stuff these days the Privacy Act is making this harder.

It is also possible to create an 'empty' entry into the registries just mentioning in the comment field that the specific part/documentation can be obtained from...

This would enable owners in the future to reunit these items whenever they hit the registries!

                        Ed,
I agree with you. I have lots of dealer factory items that have Corvette VIN numbers on them and would like to reunite these items with the respective cars. I'm not going to pay the NCRS $300 just to find out of the car has a judging history so I can track maybe down a current owner. In most cases the chances of the items I have belonging to past judged cars is remote anyway.
In the past I've occassionally tried the Driveline approach with no success. I've also tried to use Ebay without any success.
We have a Dealer Zone/Number section on our webpage so why not a section dedicated to re-uniting paperwork and/or numbered parts to the appropriate cars. We see many members looking for history on their Corvettes so this is an area of interest to many. This type of thing would assist in some way. There is lots of things out there that could make car owners happy and assist in advancing the hobby.

                        Just my $0.02

In the C1 Registry I entered my contact information and posted it under the VIN number on a 1960 I used to own in the early 1970's in hopes of connecting with the current owner. I still have registrations from way back on it. If the VIN isn't registered to someone already it would be a great way to hook up if the current owner ever looked there.
