    Date Produced vs. Build Date

Hello everyone. Page 7 of a Corvette Order sheet (the dealer's copy) lists the vehicle's "date produced". How does this compare with the build date found on a C3's trim tag? If they differ, which is more accurate?

    Thanks, Patrick Moresi #45581

My understanding of the "date produced" on the dealer copy is an estimate production date generated by the zone office that shows up as a "ballpark date" so the dealer has some idea of when this car will be built.

In contrast, the trim tag date is the actual date that the body passes by the trim tag booth. At this point...it's a body (body panels assembled) with no chassis, no trim, no interior but with paint.

The Corvette order copy is a sales document...while trim tag is a factory production document.

Typically, the Corvette rolled off the factory floor 2-3 days later which is somewhat dependent on the production year. Early C3s were building 30,000 a year while in the late model C3 years, they were pumping out 47k a year.

Re: Date Produced vs. Build Date

The date on a DEALER ORDER COPY PAGE 7, listed at the bottom of the form, is the date the car was actually completed. It typically follows the body trim tag date by 0-2 days. This date was typed onto the form along with the "collected" unique date codes stamped on the Engine, Transmission, and Differential. Also listed are the key codes. This information was only available AFTER the car was actually built.

Both of these dates are accurate because they are actual dates of the assy process; body build date (TRIM TAG) and final assembly completion (DEALER PAGE 7)

On the top of that document is the EXPECTED DATE OF PRODUCTION which was a forecast date for production assigned when the order was received/entered by GM

Thanks guys, that all makes sense. And it is consistent with the dealer's copy I just acquired for my 70 roadster, which lists the "date produced" as being 2 days after the trim tag date.
