Re: C1 Interesting 54 & 58 Corvettes at Daytona Sh

We were there for only 5 or 6 hours and felt we only saw about 20% of the cars. It was exhausting. We walked the entire time, and thankfully we had about a 90 min ride home so we could rest our legs! The weather was cool, around 70 all day but got breezy and chilly in the 60's by 5pm. (Sorry you northern folks, it was chilly to us wearing shortsleeves!:-)

I don't think there was much action in the coral that I could see. The only one we saw was a 92 Jaguar XJS convertible(wife wanted to go look at some Jags......I was scared!), as the owner & buyer were signing papers in the trunk. Thankfully it was already sold! She really wants a 63 Split WC automatic, and she was on the hunt all the time we were there. She wants one ready to run and I keep telling her we need a basket case for my next project.

BTW, I noticed several Notary Publics tents there for transacting. Didn't see lines of waiting buyers though.

I managed to buy a few bargains at the vendor area, a nice triple set of lift straps for my upcoming 62 body lift, as well as a original aluminum 3150916 radiator for $90. It looked very good so hopefully it'll flush and test ok. If not it'll make an expensive wall hanging in my new garage!

It certainly was busy in the area when things closed down. Was a bit frightening watching all those beautiful cars in all of the local traffic heading towards I95. The car show continued all the way home on the highway.

Hey Roy, Glad you're back!.....When I saw the 54 I thought of you. It was quite a bit of work. I love the originals, and as you know I'm a purist at heart, but I love all Corvettes, modified or not. It's a tremendous amount of work, and everyone has their own special way to express what they like. The paint on the 54 was gorgeous.

When I was a kid, I spent all my time making models. My favorite was my custom, scratch built Stingray funny car which took 3rd place at my local hobby shop when I was about 12 years old. Sorry, but the 426 Hemi looked better to me with the plug wires centered in the valve covers. It was the first time I ever entered one of my models in a contest. Here's the photo of my old polaroid photos. Since we moved I can't find the actual model anywhere. Hopefully it's in a box in the attic we haven't opened yet!

Having grown up when building cars like this was common I have a great appreciation for '60s gassers and old customs. The custom seems to have been modified around 1961 or earlier. The '54 looks to be a restored and updated for the street old drag car. I'd like to know it's history.

There should be a display area at NCRS meets for historical customs as well as the race cars we allow. That '58 has been a custom for 47 or so of it's '50 years of existance. I would hate to see anyone "save" it.
