    C1 Windshield and Convert. Top

    Help!!

I have just fitted a new windshield and black convertible top to my 59. I have done this job twice in the past 14 days. Each time the header (top of windshield frame (which holds the sun visors) parts from the glass when the roof is clipped into place on the uprights. Can someone please tell me where I am going wrong. Help would really be appreciated here.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Mark,

When I replaced my w/s weatherstrip many years ago, I discovered a broken tab on one post, which was causing the top frame to pull out of the glass when latching the soft top which was extremely tight from age. Having done this myself a few times, and experiencing what you are seeing before I did the same tasks, I see 3 possibilities.

When you replaced the windshield you removed the entire frame from the car. The windshield posts have a tab which two screws mount the post to the lower horizontal channel frame. Were they ok, not broken? When you latch the top, can you see any movement in the w/s posts?

The other possibility is that the top is too tight on it's frame. Hopefully, you did not break the tabs of the w/s posts when pulling in the latches.

    Third is both conditions above.

I hate to suggest this, you know what I'm going to say, but it appears you may have to remove the windshield one more time to check the tabs.
