    1968 C3 Distributor

OK I'm back again with another question about my 1968 coup. I'm getting closer to getting it running. I have now gotten the engine rebuilt and installed, the correct radiator, radiator support, and shroud all mounted in the car. Now I have a problem figuring out the electrical. When I got the car it had a MSD system in it. The car has a K66 system. My question (and yes I have a wiring diaghram) never was very good following them. But here goes my question. My car has two wires coming out the distributor that I don't know where they go. My car has a ristor mounted to the fire wall with a pink wire coming out of it that goes to a connector that joins another pink wire in the same hole of the connector there is also a gray wire in that same connector both the pink and gray wire go to the pulse amplifier. Nothing is connected to the connector. Is it as simple as connecting the two wires form the distributor to this connector? If so any idea on which wire from the coil goes to the pink treminal and which wire goes to the gray terminal? There is also a wire coming out the other end of the ristor where does it go? possibily the negative side of the coil?

If I remember correctly, MSD does not use a resistor. It wants a switched/ignition hot lead to turn it on, then uses a ground and a large hot lead from the alternator or horn relay. I forget which way the mag pickup leads connect, but it will be obvious! If connected backwards, it will still run, but the timing as noted with your timing light will be jumping all over the place and will be off by about 45 degrees. When connected the correct way it will be dead stable. By the way, I think that if you accidentally ground the MSD lead that normally goes to the points when using a mag pickup, it acts as a kill switch.

    Good luck,

Thanks for your response. I guess my question was quite confusing. I'm not trying to hook up the MSD system. I'm trying to connect the K66 system. I think I have almost figured it out except for which wire out of the distributor goes to which wire on the harness. I found a car and looked at it. The two wires out of the distributor were color coded. One with a green stripe on it that goes to the gray wire in the harness that goes to the amplifier and a white wire that goes to the pink wire in the harness that also goes to the amplifier. My problem is some one rewired my distributor and both wires coming out of it are white. My question does it make any difference which wire out of the distributor is connected to which wire in the harness? Will I burn something up if I hook up the wrong wires?

Thanks again for any help. Jay

In the plug coming from the distributor, the solid white wire should be on the side with the tang. The white/green strip is in the shorter side.

If you send me your email address I can send you the service bulletin from Delco Remy. It's 6 or 7 pages.

Thanks my email address is AgSpotti@aol.com. By the way what is tang? You say the solid white wire should be on the side with that tang.

                Thanks Jay
