63 VIN location

Where is the 63 VIN found. Also without the tank label are there other places to gather info about the cars original build ?

The 1963 VIN plate was attached to the "crossbar" under the dash and below the glove box. It is easily seen. The trim tag is also located here.

No gas tank sticker was used for 1963, so this is not an option. Sometimes, though, a copy of the build sheet may be found under the dash tucked up in some cavity or under the carpets. Build sheets WERE used for pre-67 Corvettes but they were not affixed to the gas tank as were 67+. Finding one will be a long shot, but it is a REMOTE possibility.

Otherwise, other original documentation is about the only way to positively say what options the car was originally equipped with. Certain aspects of the car may provide clues, though.

Here was no tank sticker on a 63. The metal tag with
the VIN and other body info. is located on the zee shaped
bar under the dash, actually under the glove box.
Additional info. can be found in the 63-64 Judging guide
and Nolan Adam's vol.2 book on 63-67.

You can get info on the engine stamp pad located just below the front passenger side head. If the original engine is in the car you will find the vin number and the engine assem. date. You will also find the vin stamped into the trans. case.

Also, the VIN derivative is stamped into two locations on the left top-side frame rail.
