    C-2 Engine Removal

Planning on removing the engine from a 1967 (want to install correct block and do not need to replace or rebuild the transmission) Is it much easier to leave the engine and transmission together as a unit, or can I leave the transmission in place and pull the engine and bell as a unit. (It's a small block)
    Thanks
    Bill

Bill, there are lots of posts on this in the archives but the gist of it is that is usually easier, imho, to remove the engine and trans together. I would advise you to buy a leveler, which is a jack screw that you attach the enine chain to. That way, you can tilt or level the engine as necessary during the pull.

If you haven't done this before, I would suggest either getting a helper who has done this or, as I did, buy the booklet "How to Rebuild Your Small Block Chevy". I didn't use the rebuilding part but it gives good advice for the neophyte on things to do before, during, and after the engine pull. Well worth the money, imo.

Unbolt the engine from the Bellhousing and leave the Bellhousing in place. Take something appropriate and Tie up the Bellhousing. This way you don't disturb the Shifter, Drive Shaft and some wires. Al W.

I'd definitly pull the trans with the engine. I hate working/fighting a beligerant trans under a car. Remember, you've got to put it back together and it much easier on the bench or floor.

Pull them as an assy. Much easier to reinstall MHO.
