Even if it is original from 40+ years ago, other than historical interest, I wouldn't use it in my car. I would buy a modern unit and perhaps even look at a Halon unit or its replacement.

Scott, The old GM fire extinguishers were typically dated. My 63 has a 63 dated GM fire extinguisher. I tried to get my a local company to recharge it but they refused to do so. Said they were not allowed by law to refill or recharge a fire extinguisher built before 1984. I am probably off on the year. But the sales men said 1980 somthing.
So now I have to find someone who can do it without making a fuss.
Meanwhile as mentioned it's only a nostalgia thing as any working fire extinguisher passes mustard for judging. This idea started with AACA requiring them in our vehicles to be judged. It's a wonderful as you haven't lived until your C2 catches on fire because of the crappy wiring in them. JD

Thanks, John. C-2 catching on fire, huh? Ouch! That would pain me badly. I already experienced my first C-3 convertible burn up in a garage fire four years ago but a fire extinguisher wouldn't have helped. I recently read somewhere that a motorist passed what appeared to be a restored '57 Chevrolet BelAir going up in flames because the owner didn't have a fire extinguisher. I have ABC extinguishers in both my '70 LS-5 convertible and '66 Impala SS396 convertible.

The fire extinguisher idea in NCRS ame about when a C-3 experienced an electrical fire at the 1992 Nationals. The damage was minimal, but could have been disasterous. And then there was the car at Lowe's Speedway at the Regional that developed a very serious fuel leak. Having extinguishers handy give you a feeling of security.

Dick, Thanks for the correction. I agree with you and NCRs 100%. I always carry a good halon fire extinguisher in my vehicles at all time. Back in the mid 80's a 63 I once owned caught fire and had it not been for my halon fire extinguisher and the battery shut off the car would have been burnt to the ground in short order. John
