Should I use primer in the engine compartment prior to the blackout process or should I just spray over the bare glass. I have stripped all the paint should I just use the spray directly over the fiberglass.

The factory applied primer to the body. Some of the primer hit the upper areas of the innerfenders but not necessarily the lower areas. They were not concerned about priming the innerfenders. Then the body was painted and paint also hit these areas. Then at blackout they covered all this with black. At least in theory, but much of the hidden areas of the innerfenders have nothing on them except maybe some dusty overspray and black coverage is sometimes poor, with both color and primer showing.
