    Paragon's 427 intake gaskets...

I bought a set of what I thought were correct intake gaskets from paragon about a year ago but once I had a good look at them they look just like regular replacement ones...but I'm not 100% sure.

Could someone please confirm which of these following gaskets are correct or post a pick of what correct 69 oval port gaskets should look like.

    Paragons.

A pic I took off the net at some time(note that the pic has oval and sqware port shown).

From the 69 service manual but I have a feeling that this is an earlier Mk-IV.

I was just about to cut the paragon ones to match the service manual and then decided to ask here first before I do something stupid(wouldn't be the first time).

I'm shooting for max points here and now that I see stamped numbers on the GM one I may be out of luck...what do you all think?

    Thanks,

    Greg Linton

Don't forget to look for the "GM" logo on the tabs that stick out of the end gaskets. As your pictures show, there are a lot of differences between the originals and replacements.

Greg, I cut mine (NAPA same as PARAGON) to look like the Service Manual.

They passed 3 regionals with no deduction. I did get docked for the absence of the GM logo on the end seals about 1 point or so.....

I don't know if GM still supplies these with the logo and number....

        PHOTOS.....

        Top: is NAPA gasket.
        Center: is modified NAPA gasket
Bottom: follows manifold (no show outline) and is NOT correct

Thanks guys. Would you happen to have a pic of that GM logo and where exactly it goes? Is it on the fiber gasket or the rubber end seals?

So I guess either style would be correct...the one in the service manual and the one next to the GM packaging, right?

Greg, The GM logo comes in two different sizes and is on the end rubbers. On the tab sticking out. It's a nitch the judges like to look for.
You need a set of NOS gaskets period to accomplish what you want. They are out there for big bucks. I found a set from one of our members here for my 63 and paid about a 100 for them. Well worth it I thought. When the engine was judged the first time the judges shined their little lite on the tab in the front and just felt the back of the block for the tab. Repros don't have this tab at all.
Check some of the old time engine rebuilders in your area as you may be surprised to see a bunch of these old rubbers in their junk box as they typically use RTV. JD

Greg -- here's the tab pic from that BB set

If you're in Calgary, drop by to see complete top-side big block gasket sets in the flesh.
