C3-Rear End Code

All,

I have a 71 small block. I'm not an expert, but I'm trying to gather the code from the rear end that defines the gear ratio (i.e. AX). Where is this code located? Driver side or passenger side?

ALSO - I pulled, what appears to be the date code, from both sides of the rear. I got L 22 0 on the passenger side and I got A 11 1 on the drivers side. From my research, both would apply to my car because it was assembled in February of 71...correct? Can someone explain these 2 codes?

Again, I'm just getting started and my knowledge is "entry level". Thank you!

Rea axle code is stamped on the differential carrier on the BOTTOM, just forward of where the cover attaches. It's often lightly stamped and may require wire brushing to read.

The date codes you described are the casting dates for the differential carrier CASE and the COVER; each is cast completely separately and usually have differing dates. Your codes look fine for a February, 1971 built car.

You'll find it between the spring plate and the camber strut bracket.
