I experienced an early tach failure on a 1967 BB air car resotration. I am not sure why the tach failed, but the tach head itself has been damaged at the cable drive input. The existing cable is not broken.
I purchased a new repo cable and the casing measures ~27.0" (measured between the ferrells) with the drive cable at ~28.0" . I was then told that this repo is for the 1969 up to 197xx and is too long and might damage the tach mechanism if "forced" in. I then purchased a NOS Delco cable with a casing of ~ 24.75" and a drive cable of ~25.5"; this cable has a white plastic piece on the tach end of the cable. Then when I pulled the existing cable out I find the casing measures only ~23.0" and the cable ~24.25".
Can anyone tell me the correct length of the tach drive cable for the 1967? or which length is best to insure no undue pressure on the tach mechanism. Also is it safer to install the tach end first and the distributor end second or vise versa?
Thank you
Tim
