It sounds like you have 68 bezels, which are far more rare, and probably more valuable than 69's. Rather than ruin their originally, maybe you could Ebay them, and wait for correct 69's.

      Frank and Richard-----

They're either the 1968 bezels or the 1972 bezels----both were the same.

The holes for the washer nozzles are not round; they are "D" shaped in order to index the nozzles to the "correct" position. I don't know how you would be able to re-create these precisely. I suppose they could be drilled round, the nozzles positioned properly and the flange nuts tightened. No one would be the wiser that the holes weren't of the proper configuration.

Joe, I just went back into the archives (around year 2000), and was fascinated to read your various treatises on this subject. I always wondered about this history. My 1976 parts book only lists the later plastic ones. I am enlightened.

The metal headlight bezel were also used on early 73's. The change to fiberglass happened in about December 1972.

Not sure if the archives took you back to my inquiry years ago. However there were 2 locations on the placement of the D shaped holes.

To sum it up, I think the general concensus was the bezel with the holes on the horizontal surfaces,(top and bottom), was the first design, being they are so difficult to remove. The 2nd design placed the lower hole on the vertical surface between the lights. Makes it much easier to remove. Hence the second and improved design for a rather silly system.

Not sure if NCRS has determined officially when a cut off as to use would have been. Just to add to the confusion
