Does anyone know how to run split screen in IE5?

I don't want to obsess over our new toys, but I don't want to have to switch back and forth between discussion boards. Surely our multitasking friends at Microsoft have a trick for splitting the browser screen into two. Does anyone know if this can be done? )

Open a new window and you may control both separately (File, New, Window) Roberto, NCRS #30019, RMC

Ctrl-n will open a new browser window.

You can open as many as your system can handle. I usually run with three or four open with and PII 400. I do have 128 meg of ram though. The real trick is remembering where you are at!

        Re: '66 Seat Cover Installation

If it was easy anybody could do it.;) I just finished my 65' and by the time you finish your fingers will hurt. It requires a lot of stretching, pulling, thought and patiance. My suggestion would be to take the backs to a professional since they require the most delicate fit, tools and use of hog rings. Cost should be about $30 per seat back, but well worth it. You can then do the bottoms yourself. You need a needle or awl to poke string thru foam. The strings should be centered as best possible and pulled down snug and tied. Try to apply the same amount of tension to each string to keep it level. I applied a dab of elmers glue to each knot since I used nylon string. I found on the bottoms the back corners where it bunches up was the most difficult to get turned down. Hard to explain but this area kinda bunches, pinches together, not smooth as you round the corners. Look closly at this area before you take the old one off. I used a couple more clips than standard, but seemed to give me better hold. Clip placement is critical. Start at the front and work your way to the back stretching it outward as you go to give you more to work with at the back. Heat gun or blow dryer is helpful. A good hot day is even better because you can get the whole thing heated at one time. I got very frustrated at times, but walked away and came back. It was worth the effort! I have a few extra clips, if you just need one or two extras. Will mail to you at no charge.
        My 2 cents,
        Larry #37023

Thanks for the advice. There must be a difference between '65 and '66, because there are no strings with my covers and there weren't any on the old covers. I called Al Knoch this afternoon and talked to Javier, an installer and he gave me some advice and tips. As you suggested, he also said heat was a key to making the job easier. That will be a challenge as it is only in the 20s here in Colorado, but I'll try using a heat gun. He also said to start at the corner of one side and work my way around and compress the foam as much as I can.

The seat foam bottoms on a 65 have grooves that the seat cover is pulled down into with the string that forms a panel look to the cover. I do not have a visual of the 66. Sorry for the confusion. I got off track of your question anyway. My real point was unless you are up to the challenge I would take the backs to a professional. In my case I know my limitations and it was a cheap $60 bucks.
            Take care,

              Mark:

I too have a '66 and I too have Al Knock covers and foam sitting in the basement waiting for me to tackle this. I went to a local show-car upholstery place that was recommended to me by a neighbor that had his '65 done by him. When I asked him about doing my seats, he asked if I had Al Knock covers and I told him yes, and foam. He said good, they are the best. However, he said that he uses the old foam because they manufacture the new foam too thick - much thicker than the original and the seats are difficult to do and don't look quite right. His price was rather steep ($200/seat) so I passed, but I saw his work and he is excellent. Didn't really want to hear about the foam though, especially since I have the new stuff. Good luck.

                Re: '66 Seat Cover Installation

The original foam was a two part construction with a beige base foam and a white foam overlay glued on the perimeter of the beige base foam to add shape to the seats. The Al knoch seat foams are one piece made in the thickness of the original two piece foams. They shouldn't be too thick. In fact, some mid year foams are not thick enough to give a nice tight fitted look, especially with the leather covers. Some installers have to add a bit of material to the foams to get a snug smooth fit. The foams and covers are not all exactly the right size either, some may need tweaking a bit. Getting them to look "professional" is not easy. If you want them to look good take them to an installer with experience. If you have ever seen the Al Knoch installers do seats at a show you know how much tweaking has to be done and only with experience will you know where and how to tweak. Learing in a wonderful experience but the lessons are painful.

If you want the seats to look their best, box up everything and send them to Al in El Paso. I used all his material on my 61 seats, springs, foam, covers etc. I paid a local guy who had been doing vette's for 35 yrs $250.00 for both seats. His job was better than most, but Al is the best. Pay the extra money, have Al do it. I wish I had.

                    New Al Knoch Foam

I just saw recently (cant remember where, though) that Knoch just came out with some new foam that is SUPPOSED to fit exactly, not too thick, not too thin. Maybe someone can substantiate this.

                      Re: New Al Knoch Foam

I guess I was one of the guys that talked to him about the foams two tears ago. I even brought my original 66 and 67 foams to show him. He and Dale had said that the suppliers had changed and that they were going to get something different, so there may be some differences in what customers get. They both made me feel that they would be getting the best for their customers.

                        Rick,

These bolster pads are used only on the leather seat covers. Leather covers from the supliers have them sewn into the covers.

Wayne, my original foams and leather covers are as I described them. Are you saying that Al knoch bolsters the leather covers and not the foam? What about the vinyl seats? No bolsters? So the foams from Knock are a different thickness for Vinyl versus leather?

I don't believe that is the case. I ordered my new foam from the Al Knoch Internet site and you only specify the year, not whether they are for vinyl or leather.

If you look at original seatcovers, they do not have any padding in the wings. The extra padding was added to the foam. But on the reproduction seatcovers the padding is sewn into the seat covers. On original vinyl seatcovers the padding is sewn into the covers, like the repros. I dont know why GM did it that way. It probably was easier to work the wrinkles out. If you will look at the AIM for the leather cover you will see the addition of the bolster pad.
