    1963 Electrical issues.

Just got a call from a friend who just bought a barn fresh 63 coupe. Complete car, but needs the works. He's got it running but has no electrical items that work, except the blower fan and the parking brake light.

He has no lights, turn signals, brake lights, dome lights, wipers, radio, nothing. I know this is a vague description of the problem, but that's all I know thus far. Any suggestions as to where he should begin ?? Thanks in advance. I'll try to report more as I find out.

I have the AIM and the electrical manual to take to him when I get out of the office.

look at the condition of the fuse holders in the fuseblock and the pass thru connection into the engine compartment from the back side of the fuseblock.

As Bill said a '63 does not have any fusible links but it sure does need them. One time back in '89 I was out for a ride in a '63 fake fuel car I had. At that time I was a smoker.Haven't smoked for 9 years now. Anyhow I pushed the cigarette lighter in and it never came back out. Well all at once there was smoke everywhere. Thank God I had a battery shutoff but the wiring, etc. was fried.
You said barn fresh.Often the mice like to chew on the wiring. Check the fuse box where the harnesses plug in. Probably all rusty. Get yourself a can of LPS Electro Contact Cleaner. Unplug the harnesses and give them a shot of LPS. It's one of my favorites. Often when I go to hook up the trailer something isn't working and I hit the contacts with the LPS and solve the problem.
