    Removal of wiper motor

What's the best way to remove the wiper/washer motor assy from a factory A/C car? Can I get to the bolts through the clock opening, or do I need to remove the radio or radio speaker? Does anyone have pictures?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Bob - I can get mine out without removing the speaker, radio, or clock but I do need to remove the glove box assembly to get enough work room. My car does not have A/C, so I don't know if that presents any special challenges. I also remove the steering wheel to simplify the access on the driver side.

On the engine side of the firewall, it would be simple if the distributor were removed. With enough twisting and turning, it will come out by moving the cap out of the way.

You don't need two people for removal but you probably will for installation. It's difficult to line up one of the 4 mounting bolts as a starter by yourself without suspending the wiper motor somehow. I found that the 4 repro mounting bolts currently sold are shorter than the originals making it extra hard to use them.

I have a 67 small block with A/C, and I was able to remove and replace the wiper motor by removing the glove box for access. I may have removed the distributor as well. I don't the A/C is much of a factor.

This is a very unpleasant task because access to the wiper motor bolts is so limited. As I recall I used a 1/4 inch ratchet drive socket, and had to feel my way to the bolt head because I could not simultaneously see the bolt and reach it.
