Re: 1970 / 1972 Chassis VIN number?
Jerry-----
A COMPLETE VIN did not appear on the frame of any 63-82, although I believe that the complete VIN was used for C1 cars. 63-82 Corvettes had a VIN derivative (the last so-many characters of the VIN) stamped on the frame in at least one place and, usually, 2 places.
Law enforcement does sometimes check to insure that these numbers match. If the numbers don't match and the VIN derivative on the frame is found to belong to a stolen car, the owner of the car is in for BIG TROUBLE. Even if he had no part, whatsoever, in the original theft or numbers "hanky-panky", he could easily lose the car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1970 / 1972 Chassis VIN number?
This is a photo of my 67 frame number. It is a partial VIN# but is the most important part of the VIN. The VIN is stamped on the frame.
"7" indicates the year
"S" indicates the assy plant
"115770" is the sequential (serial) number.
The first 5 digits of a complete VIN indicated model;
coupe or convert. 19437 or 19467 and are not stamped on the frame
